Getting an ISBN

with 4 comments

To prepare for the 2009 anthology, I started doing research on getting an ISBN.  This article explains the issue pretty well, though it’s a few years old: http://www.fonerbooks.com/2005/07/how-to-obtain-isbn-number_05.html

There are several pages and packages for independent publishing: http://www.publisherservices-us.com/

Amazon offers something called Create Space, which offers some useful services and print-on-demand services: http://www.CreateSpace.com/

  1. If you want to get an ISBN for free, it’s possible, but it takes a little effort.

And I think Lulu is better than CreateSpace in many ways, except distribution. However, if you push Lulu, they will give you equal distribution.

  2. Thanks. I’ll check out Lulu. Distribution is definitely an important aspect for us, though.

  3. Well, distribution usually costs a lot of money up front, but if you’re careful and ask around, it can be done cheaper.

If you need any help with publishing or printing or distribution, I already e-mailed you (on a different subject). My name is David, by the way.
